Southern California Writers' Conference expands to Palm Springs |

SAN DIEGO—Recognized as among the premier writing conferences in the country, the Southern California Writers’
Conference, held annually in San Diego and Los Angeles, is expanding to include a third event that will take place in
Palm Springs beginning May, 2004. Uniquely set apart from its sister events whose focus is almost exclusively on the
publishing world, the SCWC*Palm Springs will also offer a total immersion screenwriting-for-production
program.
Founded and run by professional authors of fiction, nonfiction and screen, the SCWC is renowned for its comprehensive mix of
read & critique and interactive workshops, guest panels and evening speakers, facilitating many first-book deals with N.Y.
publishers and Hollywood film & network television producers. “Over $2.6 million worth of book and screen deals have been
signed as a result of material and contacts nurtured at the SCWC,” said Executive Director Michael Steven Gregory.
Offering extensive manuscript read & critique opportunities in an environment rarely found at similar events, the conference
features dozens of daytime and special late-night “Rogue” workshops—where participants join marathon sessions sometime
lasting until four or five o’clock in the morning—evening speakers, a literary agents panel, the SCWC banquet, one-on-one
evaluations, and an awards ceremony.
New to the SCWC is the stand-alone "Script to Screen: Screenwriters Production Cram" that allows aspiring screenwriters to
work with professional filmmakers to craft, cast, shoot and edit a short film over the weekend. Sponsored in
part by The American Academy of Arts (A3), the program is a condensed version of its successful 2-week Indie Filmmakers Bootcamp.
Staff will be announced shortly. For a free brochure call (619) 233-4651 or go online to
