| Go Midwest, young (wo)man! Filmmaker's Bootcamp in Missouri |

SAN DIEGO – Learn to make movies by making a movie! The Indie Filmmaker's Bootcamp, a total immersion
program in which aspiring filmmakers make a movie under the guidance of Hollywood
professionals, will make its midwestern debut in Columbia, Missouri, summer of 2005. Sponsored by the Stephens
College Mass Media Arts program, the IFB is an extension of The American Academy of Arts' flagship San Diego event, now in
its third year.
According to Academy president and director of the IFB Michael Steven Gregory, while today's digital technology has
empowered filmmakers like never before the actual process of making movies remains virtually unchanged, and that's where the
Indie Filmmaker's Bootcamp comes in. "Filmmaking production and all the considerations inherent to its process — development, pre-production,
production, post-production, marketing and exhibition — is a fixed succession of considerations, expectations,
demands, implementation and payoffs. Our objective is to ground students in the overall process of
commercial filmmaking by making them think like producers and work 12- to 16-hour days crewing a professionally managed
production." Gregory adds, "Theory and textbooks are important, however, nothing takes
the place of production experience when it comes to learning how to make movies.”
Featuring industry professionals from both the studio and independent film worlds, the IFB provides students hands-on
exposure to the crucial phases of production in a real world environment by allowing them to work alongside
key mentors to craft, cast, shoot and edit a quality short film over the course of 9 days.
Among the facets of production students participate in: Producing, Story Development, Script Breakdown, Production
Management, Budgeting & Scheduling, Cinematography, Sound Design & Recording, Grip & Electric, Casting & Working with
Actors, Editing, The Rough Cut and more.
