| SCWC offers total immersion tracks in Palm Springs |

PALM SPRINGS—Following its successful bow in Palm Springs last year, where the Southern California
Writers' Conference debuted a stand-alone "Script-to-Screen" track in which aspiring screenwriters worked with
professional filmmakers to craft, cast and shoot a quality short film in only three days, the SCWC has added two more
weekend-long sessions to its desert event for '05.
Best-selling author Drusilla Campbell (The Edge of the Sky, Blood Orange) will be conducting the total
immersion "Novel Cram," in which aspiring novelists dig in for the weekend to thoroughly outline their full length
manuscript — from character development and story arcs, plot points and narrative drive to ultimate climax — in three days.
And for the short story writers, legendary workshop leader, novelist and author of over 200 published short stories
spanning the gamut of genres, C.J. (Jerry) Hannah will be conducting the "Short Story Shakeout: From Hook to Climax." In
this total immersion track, writers bring only a 250-word idea to the conference on Friday with the desire and
commitment to write a publishable short story based on it by Sunday morning.
The stand-alone tracks are a departure from the traditional four-tier general session structure of the annual
conferences (held also in San Diego and Los Angeles), according to SCWC Executive Director Michael Steven Gregory.
"After seeing those of us in last year's Script-to-Screen track running off for 16 hours a day to make our movie, many
conferees expressed that they'd like to work that intensely in a tight-knit group concentrating on verse, and that would
result in tangible evidence of their abilities by weekend's end." Gregory explained. "Jerry and Dru have very specific
approaches to what they do successfully, so if the writers are serious about supporting the tracks, I say let's have
some fun and get some serious work done."
In addition to the three tracks spanning the 3-day event, plenty of general sessions focusing on craft and marketing,
plus read & critique workshops, one-on-one manuscript evaluations, evening speakers and an agents panel round out the
conference. For complete details visit the SCWC website at www.WritersConference.com or call (619) 233-4651.
