| What the bleep is "transformational storytelling," focus in L.A. |
|
LOS ANGELES—After 19 years of addressing the nuts & bolts of craft, the Southern California Writers' Conference turns
its focus toward creative convergence and transformational content development at its 4th annual Los Angeles event.
Subtitled “New Paradigm Storytelling for Authors and Media Makers,” the conference will present the issues and
opportunities today's storytellers face in an ever-expanding transmedia marketplace.
"It's a creators confab," said SCWC executive director Michael Steven Gregory. "For writers and producers, the means of
connecting to the global society is changing exponentially. Couple this with a heightened mainstream awareness of
spiritually themed content, as evidenced by the popularity of The DaVinci Code or movies such as
What the Bleep Do We Know?, National Treasure and Pay It Forward, and the prospects for evoking
inclusive, positive change through our efforts, whether in written, visual or aural form, are like never before. As much as
we'll explore the development of commercially viable content, our L.A. event will be about consciously developing
purposeful content of affirmative being."
The Center for Conscious Creativity (C3), an organization specializing in transformational media development and education,
is co-sponsoring the SCWC*LA. C3 co-founder Kate McCallum explained, "So much about bridging the worlds of media, the
arts and consciousness successfully is dependent on the informed and enlightened writer that partnering with the SCWC was an
obvious choice. Uniting storytellers and content producers from the entertainment industry with some of the brightest
thinkers from the sciences and perennial wisdom traditions allows us to investigate the ideas, technology and future of
creative convergence while expanding our potential for grand possibilities."
From the numinous to the pragmatic, from screenplays, experimental narrative and interactive game writing to e-content,
animation, graphic novels and beyond, the New Paradigm Storytelling conference is shaping up to be a spirited, eclectic
affair. Session leaders, speakers and panelists will be announced beginning in April. For more information visit
