Gregory brings indie arsenal to the "Digital DMZ" |

SAN DIEGO — Filmmaker Michael Steven Gregory is president of Random Cove, LLC, an
independent producer of original media created by its stable of bestselling
novelists and WGA writers. Drawing from his background in the trenches of alternative
entertainment, he brings the urgent sense of commitment and "just do it" spirit of those
plying the mainstream fringe to the online front. Says Gregory, "There's a
war being waged on the Internet. Those who ultimately win it will be the filmmakers,
writers and other artists armed with enough business sense to retain their intellectual
property rights and accomplish their objectives independent of the corporate
oppressors' purse strings, and do it now."
Working beyond the reach of corporate goliaths, meddlesome financiers or IPO-obsessed
MBAs, Gregory has been "doing it now" consistently—and successfully—all along:
An accomplished screenwriter of film and television,
Gregory began directing in 1990 with the acclaimed drama, blood, telling the
story of a boy who unwittingly kills his brother in a drive-by shooting, and boasting a
soundtrack provided in part by The-Artist-Formally-Known-As-
Committed to bolstering the opportunities available to San Diego's independent filmmakers
on a national level, in 1992 Gregory became founding director and president of the Film &
Video Artists Association of San Diego (FAVAA). The non-profit organization quickly became
the premier organization of its kind locally, offering a full slate of workshops and
special events to its growing membership before his stepping down two years later.
At this time Gregory brought his literary and cinematic sensibilities to the comic book
field, scripting under his pseudonym of "Caucus de Bourbon" some of the
biographical genre's most popular titles. His books include the life-stories of
Muhammad Ali, Yogi Berra, Gordy Howe, Sandy Koufax, Joe Louis, David Lynch, Willie Mays,
Satchel Paige, Ross Perot and others.
Marrying his duel insight into publishing and film to one definitive endeavor, Gregory
then made the feature documentary We,
The Writer. Called "Possibly the greatest conversation about writing ever overheard!"
this inspiring film united 25 authors, including Joseph Wambaugh, David Brin, Sharon Ihle,
Quincy Troupe and Alan Russell to provide candid insight into the Byzantine and often
bittersweet world of writing like no other. Its follow-up, We, The Screenwriter,
is now underway.
Gregory's recent scriptwriting duties include the Silver Surfer and
Spider-Man Unlimited animated series for Fox, the feature-length historical
drama 'Long Came Charlie, new audio serials for In The Ear, including
Mother, Master, Sister, Slave and Dis'n the Make, as well as
content development for Random Cove's popular "Toga TV," which is
syndicated exclusively to
TV Writer.com online.
