| Random Cove crew gets "Goosed" after rocky take-off |
|
SAN DIEGO — Random Cove’s Michael Steven Gregory was brought aboard to helm independent
producer Mystic Rose’s first feature-length family drama, Get Goosed, after major
complications nearly derailed the Colorado production on its first day of shooting.
“For reasons still unclear,” explained Gregory, “the crew hired out of Denver never
arrived at the location, some four hours away in the Rockies.” After an emergency call
was placed to Gregory by Larry Brody, award-winning producer of network television shows
ranging from Police Story and Baretta to Silver Surfer
and Spider-Man Unlimited, Gregory
had four days to prep, amass a crew & all its equipment, travel to Salida, Colorado and
rein the production back to its scheduled three weeks of principle photography.
Instrumental in realizing that goal were director of photography Marq Castagna, assistant
cameraman Stephen Cini, gaffer Nick Berry and sound recordist Mark Mondok.
Although often called to “fix what’s broken,” Gregory admitted that the challenges of this
particular shoot were especially daunting at first. “Our collective faith in Charles
Newcomb's script and vision of how the movie could be realized superceded any doubts we had of actually
being able to do what we set out to. What it all hinged on, of course, was our ability
to work together well, and our willingness to multi-task responsibilities.”
Despite the high altitude (8000’), consistent 16-hour work days, and mind-numbing
schedule, Gregory asserts that this was the best experience with a crew he’s ever had the
privilege of working with. “Unlike too many others these days, those of us aboard for
this shoot shared a ‘let’s aspire for that vs settle for this’ attitude which sustained
our determination to deliver a quality picture that was actually better than what the
producers first envisioned. It's an uncommon attitude that is very much prevalent in every
project Random Cove is a part of.”
Get Goosed is slated for release in 2001.
