FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Eight conference books published in 24 months

The October release of Southern California Writers' Conference Fiction Award recipient Justine Musk's debut novel, BloodAngel (Rock/Penguin-Putnam), brings to eight the number of SCWC conferees whose books have been published in the past 24 months. Another October title, Murder Uncorked (Berkley Prime Crime), marks Michele Scott's first out of a total of six books she sold in ten months.

Having facilitated some $3 million worth of first-time authors’ book sales to publishers, through extended one-on-one evaluation of advance submissions, dozens of read & critique and Q&A workshops, evening speakers and informal sessions, the SCWC continues to distinguish itself from the majority of writers' conferences by having on staff publishing professionals whose commitment to shepherding participant's work to publication extends far beyond a mere weekend event.

Said SCWC Director Wes Albers, "Finding a home for all these precious babies the writers coming to the conference have written, is our job. The quality and integrity of the authors and agents and editors we're fortunate enough to have on staff makes the difference. They're the ones who say, 'Hey, I believe in your potential and your book, and I'm here to help you get where you want to be. If that means committing to you for the long-term, so be it.'"

Featuring best-selling authors of fiction and nonfiction, and agents and editors from California to New York gathered to address the art, craft and business of writing professionally, the 20th Annual Southern California Writers' Conference *San Diego takes place Presidents' Day Weekend, February 17–20, 2006.
